Co-Founder, Kaleidoscope Village
Nicole Young-Turner (she/her) is the Founder and Executive Director of Kaleidoscope Village, a LGBTQ+ Inclusion community organization with the mission to Elevate the voices of LGBTQIA2s+ Youth, Educate all leaders with strategies to build culturally-centered, inclusive cultures, and create Empowering spaces for all people in our village to lead, learn, connect and thrive as their True Selves.
A #BraveEducator and courageous advocate for Queer and Trans Communities of Color, her identity and lived experiences as a Southern Black Queer Woman fuels her passion for educating diverse leaders and mobilizing underrepresented people through a culturally reflective, liberatory lens. Native to Atlanta, GA, Nicole grew up in public schools, where she served as a founding GSA member. Following high school, she attended Georgia Institute of Technology, obtaining a B.S. in Science, Technology, and Culture and becoming the first undergraduate student to receive a President’s Undergraduate Research Award for an ethnographic study focusing on LGBTQ family structures.
For over a decade, Nicole has played an integral role in “bringing the revolution to our classrooms” by establishing transformational Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives in the education space and leading youth empowerment programs, including: launching the national LGBTQ+ Prism Alliance at Teach For America, serving as the 2020-2021 Board Chair of the Prism Metro Atlanta Coalition, and leading the charge for inclusion in “edupreneurial” innovation as the only LGBTQ+ Founder of Color nominated for the 2020 Metro Atlanta Teach For America Social Innovation Fellowship. Mrs. Young-Turner currently lives and leads in her hometown Atlanta, GA with her wife and co-creator, Margo Young-Turner, and is energized to continue building coalitions and #LeadingForLiberation.
