
Gina Tyson-Devoe (she/her)

Gina Tyson-Devoe has served as a teacher for almost 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Literary Studies (University of Texas at Dallas), a Master of Arts in Education: Curriculum and Instruction (University of Phoenix) and a Master of Arts in Leadership and Change (Antioch University). Mrs. Devoe is also a PhD candidate at Antioch.
Her dissertation, Her Voice Matters: Life Histories of Black Women Teachers’ Working Conditions, focuses on Black women teacher’s lived experiences in the classroom over the course of their career. As a Black Queer Woman, Gina understands the struggles to show up authentically in spaces that lack understanding and acceptance. She has experienced discrimination, isolation, and targeting at different points in her career. Her lived experiences only strengthen her voice and advocacy for herself and others, especially young people.
Mrs. Tyson-Devoe is the host and producer of her own podcast, Urban Teacher’s Lounge. This podcast, a Black teacher initiative, is Unapologetically for Black Teachers & Unapologetically by Black Teachers. Its focuses on bridging the gap between education scholarship and classroom teachers. Gina is married with a Big-Blended-Family, two dogs, and two guinea pigs.
